Manchester United coaching icon Sir Alex Ferguson's record of becoming the fastest manager in the Premier League era to reach 100 league clean sheets has been broken by Chelsea football team boss Jose Mourinho, following his side's 1-0 win over West Ham United on Wednesday.

Mourinho has recorded a century of clean sheets in just 185 matches after Chelsea's win over West Ham on Wednesday in their Premier League tie.

Ferguson, who is the most decorated manager in the history of football, took 214 Premier League matches to achieve the feat, the Daily Star reported.

Ferguson is reportedly known to be a keen admirer of Mourinho, who burst into the headlines by sprinting down the touchline as his Porto side knocked Ferguson's United out of the Champions League on their way to European glory in 2004.

Mourinho also holds the record for the best shut-out ratio in the division, as he has kept out his opposition in 54 percent of league matches played, and is comfortably ahead of former Liverpool and Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez in this category, who kept clean sheets in 45 percent of his matches.

Moreover, his claim to be the best defensive manager of the Premier League era is further credited by the fact that Mourinho has conceded just 0.63 goals per match, with Benitez again in second place, having conceded 0.82 goals per match.

Following his side's midweek win over West Ham, Mourinho was full of praise for his defensive players. He said that there are matches when one needs ones quality to win, others when one needs luck and others when one has to adapt to the opponent and added that they had to do that with John Terry, Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma for the direct football, and insisted that Thibaut Courtois amazing in everything.

Mourinho's side look set to clinch the league title this year, having already lifted the Capital One Cup last week, the report added.
