South Africa claimed a 69-run victory over West Indies in the final Twenty20 International on Wednesday to avoid a whitewash against the tourists, thanks to wicketkeeper-batsman Morne van Wyk's unbeaten ton and all-rounder David Wiese claiming five wickets.

Van Wyk, who is on South Africa's stand-by list for next month's World Cup should wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock not recover from injury, smashed 114 from 70 balls with nine fours and seven sixes to help the home side score 195 for three.

West Indies made a bright start but lost wickets at regular intervals with only opener Lendl Simmons, who hit 49 from 31 balls, nearing the half-century mark as the visitors collapsed to 126 all out in 19 overs, Sport24 reported.

All-rounder Wiese proved to be the pick of the South African bowlers for the second match running as he delivered career-best figures of 5-23 in his four overs, the second best bowling figures in T20 internationals for the hosts.

West Indies won the three match 20-over series 2-1.

The first of five ODIs between the two teams would be played in Durban on Friday, the report added.
