England's embattled captain Alastair Cook has claimed that he has improved as a Test batsman despite going through a rough patch since 2013.

The left-hand opening batsman's last century for England was his 130 against New Zealand in Headingley Test match in May 2013.

Cook, who was sacked as team's ODI captain before the World Cup, could manage only 24 runs in the drawn first Test against West Indies.

Cook said that he had reviewed his previous performances in early February and believes that it has changed quite a lot, adding that his game has improved over time, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The opener further said that his success has been built on him being a resilient guy who could try and play each ball on its merits for a long period of time.

The second match of the three-match Test series against West Indies will commence on Tuesday in Grenada.
