Little-known Mexican wrestler Perro Aguayo Jr, the real-life son of lucha libre legend Perro Aguayo, was fatally injured in the wrestling ring during a match with ex-WWE superstar Rey Mysterio.

According to reports, Aguayo took a kick to the neck by Mysterio and was knocked unconscious, landing on the ring ropes. He was soon transported to hospital but declared dead in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The reason for the death was reported as whiplash. Apparently, Aguayo snapped his neck landing on the ropes and suffered cervical spine trauma, leading to his death.

What was even more contentious however was that Mysterio and a few other wrestlers who were involved in the match continued to perform even as Aguayo lay motionless in the ring.

According to F4WOnline.com, Rey Mysterio has reportedly received death threats in Mexico due to the death of Aguayo.

Here's the video of the incident:

In-ring deaths are not very uncommon in the world of professional wrestling. Though the matches are scripted and wrestlers are taught 'safe' techniques of combat, mistakes do occur and sometimes end up taking lives. The most well-known example is that of Owen Hart who died after falling about 70 feet from above the ring, as the harness he was supposed to use to make an entrance broke.

Despite what most people think about professional wrestling. it is a very dangerous form of entertainment in which people risk grevious injury, permanent paralysis or even death, on a daily basis.
