Virender Sehwag's flamboyant personality on social media isn't simply restricted to sports. Even though the former India opener has made a name for himself in recent times with his hilarious birthday wishes for former team-mates and witty remarks on the game, he has also been in the news for taking social stands. His take during the recent Gurmehar Kaur controversy is a case in point.

While Sehwag did receive his fare share of flak for trolling Kaur, the Delhi Dasher got it spot on as he paid respect to those who lost their lives in the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy.

The massacre in Amritsar on April 13, 1919, was one of the darkest chapters of Britain's rule in India. Under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer, BaishakhI pilgrims who had gathered in Jallianwala Bagh were fired upon by British troops. The atrocity saw the demise of hundreds of innocent Indians, something the country will perhaps never be able to forget.

To mark the 98th anniversary of the tragic incident, Sehwag took to social media to post an emotional message on Thursday. Along with a glowing tribute to the martyrs, he didn't shy away from calling General Dyer in an idiot.

"Humble Tributes to the martyrs of #JallianwalaBagh massacre, which happened because of a brutal idiot - General Dyer. May the Flame of Liberty glow," wrote Sehwag.
