Russian ace Maria Sharapova battled back from one game from defeat to beat Spain's Garbine Muguruza 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the quarterfinals to reach the French Open semi-finals. The former world number one will now face Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, who defeated Carla Suarez Navarro 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 7-5.

According to the BBC, Sharapova, who won the French Open title in 2012, had lost the first set to Muguruza, the the unseeded 20-year-old who beat Serena Williams in the second round, as the Spaniard broke three times to win the first set in 27 minutes and led 5-4 in the second.
