Manchester United cruised past League One side Preston North End 3-1 on Tuesday to set up a quarter-final battle against defending champions Arsenal.

Following a first-half stalemate, defender Scott Laird put North End ahead in the 47th minute before midfielder Ander Herrera, who substituted Radamel Falcao, netted an equalizer for Louis van Gaal's side in the 65th minute.

Subsequently, Marouane Fellaini's close-range finish doubled the lead seven minutes later and Wayne Rooney added a third one with a clinical penalty finish in the 88th minute to give his side an unassailable 3-1 lead, the BBC reported.

United will next face defending champions Arsenal on the weekend of 7 and 8 March at Old Trafford.
