Manchester United is ready to make a move for Angel Di Maria after the Argentine winger asked to leave Spanish league giants Real Madrid.

United new boss Louis van Gaal named the Argentine attacker as his next target earlier this month, and previously faced competition from Paris Saint Germain to land Di Maria.

But United's hopes were given a significant boost on Thursday after Real boss Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Di Maria had turned down an offer to stay at the Bernabeu before requesting a transfer from the European champions, Metro.co.uk reported.

Ancelotti reportedly said that Di María has asked to leave and rejected an offer from the club. He added that if the Argentine does not find a future solution, he stays no problem.

Real are holding out for a 50 million-pound fee for the winger, while Di Maria will command in the region of 2,00,000 pounds-per-week in wages should he leave the Spanish capital, the report added.
