Manager Louis Van Gaal unaffected by Scholes' criticism of Manchester United's style of play

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes' criticism of his former team's style of play under current manager Louis van Gaal has not worried the Dutchman.

Former United midfielder Scholes said that the club's football was miserable and failing the club's attacking traditions, insisting that at the moment he is struggling to watch Van Gaal's team with any great enjoyment.

However, Van Gaal replied that he doesn't worry about that, adding that Scholes is one of the fans and fans can criticise United, the BBC reported.

United currently are placed at the third spot in the Premier League table following Wednesday's 3-1 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford, a display which Van Gaal didn't like.

And the Dutchman has admitted that after eight months in charge of United he doesn't yet know his best formation having used a flat back four, three at the back and various midfield permutations.

Van Gaal has claimed that he has not settled on a preferred set-up, adding that he has played five or six systems and is looking still for the balance.

However, the Dutchman added that this 4-4-2 system is more attractive than normally and he could play with more attacking players, insisting that that's the reason he is doing that.
