It was yet again the same result for the Mumbai Magicians who have managed only a win against the Uttar Pradesh Wizards this season. They lost their 11th game in 12 matches; this time the 0-1 defeat came against Ranchi Rhinos. Jason Wilson’s only goal in the game’s fourth quarter gave Rhinos the lead.
The tie wasn’t anywhere close to being an interesting encounter. In fact, both the teams dished out below-par performances.
With the likes of Sandeep Singh in the ranks, Magicians were expected to cash in on the penalty corner opportunities. That somehow wasn’t on view. Worse, Manpreet Singh received a yellow card for careless tackle.
No 2 on the points table, Rhino dominated the game but couldn’t create as many goal opportunities as they would have liked. Ranchi Rhinos coach Gregg Clark said, “The match did not turn out to be the way we expected. But the boys hung around and gave us that goal. It’s important to end the league with a win.”
