* The BCCI has suspended Rajasthan Cricket Association, claiming the association violated by-laws of the association.

Lalit Modi, the former IPL chairman and founder, was today officially declared the president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association. Lalit Modi will lead Rajasthan board despite the BCCI banning him due to alleged irregularities.

Modi who currently lives in exile in the United Kingdom, after claims of threats against his life in India, was declared the winner of the RCA polls only on Tuesday, even as the elections to the RCA were held on December 19 2013.

Commenting on the the supreme court order that allowed for the results to be declared, Lalit Modi had said, "I am extremely happy that the Supreme Court has taken the right decision and allowed the due democratic process to go forward. We are hoping our group will win the elections. If we do win we will have an agenda and vision which I will make clear after the results,"

The election was conducted in December last year but the results were sealed following a Supreme Court directive. After much deliberation, the result was finally announced by a court-appointed observer here today.

As expected Modi won by a landslide margin, polling in 24 out of 33 votes, while his opponent Rampal Sharma earned just five. The administrator, who has been living in London for the past four years, was allowed to contest the RCA elections held on December 19 last year under the supervision of a Supreme Court-appointed observer. Among other office-bearers, Somendra Tiwari was elected as the new secretary, while Pawan Goyal won the treasurer's post. Mehmood M Abdi, a close confidante and legal counsel of Modi, has been elected as the deputy president of the RCA.

The BCCI though is rather unhappy with the news, as 'suspended' BCCI president N Srinavasan is considered as Modi's arch-rival and while the BCCI has conceded defeat where the RCA polls are concerned, As dna had reported earlier, BCCI will continue to try and block Modi's return onto the BCCI managing committee.
