Kumar Sangakkara to call quits after World Cup?

Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara is likely to retire from all forms of cricket after the 2015 ICC World Cup, according to reports.

The World Cup, which is scheduled to be held from February 14 to March 29 next year in Australia and New Zealand, might well be the last time the wicket-keeper batsman plays international cricket for his country.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, the 37-year-old former Sri Lanka captain had conveyed his decision of retiring to the selectors in a special meeting on Wednesday. However, a national selector denied such a meeting having taken place.

But Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sources said Sangakkara's manager had informed about his decision to board officials and an official announcement was expected to be made soon.

Sri Lanka are set to play England in a seven-match ODI series from November 26. It could well be Sangakkara's last series on home soil. Earlier this month, Sangakkara flew back before the last two ODIs against India, choosing to rest.

Should he indeed retire after the World Cup, Sangakkara would have already played his last Test match at home, against Pakistan in August.
