Siddharth Kaul does not have long hair. Unless you watch him bowl with a longer run-up, running in fast and hard, you will not guess he bowls fast. He certainly does not have the pace of a Dennis Lillee or Jeff Thomson. Yet, he goes about his business of bowling fast with a headband firmly in place.

The 26-year-old made his debut for Punjab in Ranji Trophy even before turned 18 and even before he played in the U-19 World Cup that Virat Kohli-led India triumphed.

Three members from that India U-19 team went on to play for the country with Kohli being one of the best in the world at the moment. Manish Pandey and Ravindra Jadeja have also gone on to represent the country with varying successes.

"I look at it as destiny. I only look at focussing on the processes with my bowling and how I can get the team to a better position. My aim is to give 100 per cent for whichever team I am picked for," Kaul, who took 4/77 in 21 overs in the Irani Cup opening day against Gujarat, said here on Friday.

He has been around for 10 seasons, yet playing only his 45th first-class match and picked up 159 scalps till date.

Kaul said he aims at bowling in the right areas than go looking for pace. "If my rhythm is right, I can bowl 130-plus kmph. In IPL, I once bowled 143kmph."

Kaul provided vital breakthroughs including that of Gujarat captain Parthiv Patel just before lunch. He bowled well in tandem with the vastly experienced Rajasthan pacer Pankaj Singh, who took 3/77 on the day.

"It is great to have Pankaj. He has moe experience than me, having played at the international level. Even in the net sessions, he tells me the areas to bowl and succeed," Kaul, who is the younger brother of Punjab wicket-keeper Uday, said of his bowling partnership with Singh.
