Under Virat Kohli's captaincy, Indian cricket team added another glorious chapter to their repertoire by becoming the third Indian outfit to stitch together a string of 16 undefeated matches on home soil. Ravichandran Ashwin and Jayant Yadav claimed three wickets apiece in the second innings to lead the hosts to a comfortable 246-run win in the second Test against England on Monday and left the home team just four-match short of equalling the all time record.

Since Alastair Cook's men had beaten MS Dhoni's team at Eden Gardens in December 2012 to take an unassailable 2-1 series lead, India have played 16 Tests at home without defeat, winning 13 and drawing three.

The record is 20 which was set in between 1977-1980 under the leadership of Bishan Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Viswanath. While the period between 1960-1964 saw the Indians being unconquered in 16 consecutive Tests at home.
