Sacked England batsman Kevin Pietersen has let out an early warning to Australia's fast bowling army, insisting that pace alone would not help them win the 2015 Ashes.

The Australians announced a formidable 17-man squad for this summer's Ashes Test series, including a familiar cast of fast bowlers who fired them to a 5-0 whitewash against England 15 months ago.

However, Pietersen, who is battling to make an England comeback after 14 months in forced exile, has said that the nature of pitches likely to confront Michael Clarke's attack would put a higher premium on guile than raw speed, The Mirror reported.

After the Australians had declared their hand, Pietersen tweeted that it doesn't matter how fast one bowls in England, it's where one bowls.

Pietersen did, however, concede that Australians were sending over a very strong squad to defend the series, starting in Cardiff on July 8.
