Anju Bobby Goerge, India's lone World Championship medalist, resigned as the Kerala Sports Council President on Wednesday after alleging that Kerala Sports Minister EP Jayarajan insulted her.

Anju was quoted by english.manoramaonline.com saying, "Sports is beyond the purview of any party or politics. I was very happy when I was given this opportunity to head the sports council. But unfortunately things did not go the way I want it to. Hence, the decision to step down."

Anju made further statement saying that sportspersons will not lose the battle, even if the politicians try to kill sports. Claiming that the controversy of Jayarajan insulting her made her take the decision of announcing her resignation at a press meet. Other members of the Kerala Sports Council are P.R. Sreejesh (Indian hockey captain), Tom Joseph (Volleyball player), and former athlete Preeja Sreedharan.

The controversy came out when Jayarajan accused her of financial irregularities while performing duties as Kerala Sports Council President. Anju refuted the allegations, calling them baseless. She even wrote a 5-page open letter Jayarajan to carry out a proper probe into the allegations.

She also approached the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for support, but did not get any.
