Karnataka awards CWG winning athletes

The state government on Friday announced the cash award for the two state athletes for winning medals in Commonwealth Games 2014, which is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.

K Abhayachandra Jain, Minister for Sports, Youth Service and Fisheries announced a cash award of Rs 25 lakh to Vikas Gowda and Rs 15 lakh to Prakash Nanjappa for their achievement in Commonwealth Games at Glasgow.

Vikas S Gowda a native of Mysore has won the Gold medal in Discus throw while Prakash one more Kannadiga has won the Silver medal in Shooting, representing India from Karnataka worldwide.

Earlier Vikas Gowda had taken part in Asian Championships-2013 held in Pune and won gold medal. Prakash Nanjappa a techie in profession took up shooting as passion and left the job. He had won a Bronze medal in the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, South Korea held in 2013.

In this regard the state government has announced to give a tone of love to these state players. Even the state government has planned to facilitate these achiever with the presence of Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah.
