London: Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has paid tribute to fellow Spaniard David de Gea, who has been voted as the club's Player of the Year by both the fans and the players.

Mata said that with United's disastrous season, the big prize has been for d De Gea and he felt honoured to present it to the goalkeeper after both fans and players vote him as United's Player of the Year.

According to the Mirror, the Spaniard, who joined United from Chelsea for a record signing of 37.1 million pounds, said that it is the first time that the trophy went to the club's goalkeeper and that De Gea deserves a lot of credit for that.

Mata said that his fellow countryman has got amazing qualities and believes that De Gea may become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

United endured a disastrous season and finished seventh in the Premier League this season, which is the lowest in their league history, and have also missed out entirely on next season's Champions League, the report added.
