Former Manchester City assistant manager David Platt has been named as FC Pune City's coach for the oncoming Indian Super League season.

Platt, 48, will helm the reins from former Italian coach Franco Colomba.  Despite having big names like David Trezeguet and Jermaine Pennant, Pune failed to clinch a top-four finish in the last ISL season and will look to Platt to help them go one better this time around.

A 0-1 loss to eventual runners-up Kerala Blasters in their final league game finished their chances of winning the tournament, which may have led to Pune hiring Platt as the new coach. Colomba had problems with the club's marquee player David Trezeguet, with the star French player spending most of the time on the bench thus developing a troubled relationship with the coach.

Platt will be aiming at least for a semi-final finish for Pune this season and his wealth of experience of coaching in the Premier League will definitely come in handy for Pune. He was Manchester City's first team coach under Roberto Mancini when the club won the Premier League crown in the 2011-12 season. Platt later left City in May 2013 for his further commitments.

Platt has also coached Sampdoria (Serie A), Nottingham Forest and England U-21 and has had a fair degree of success.

Puyol will not play for Delhi Dynamos

Delhi Dynamos' talks with ex-Barcelona skipper Carles Puyol failed after the defender demanded a salary way higher than the maximum cap set by the league.

Though the maximum salary cap for the ISL is Rs 20 cr, Puyol for all his star power has a much higher wage demand which Delhi cannot possibly afford.

Puyol will in all probability follow his team-mate Xavi Hernandez's foot-steps and try and make a foray in the cash rich Gulf leagues or even try his hand at one of the Major League Soccer franchises.
