Delhi-based realtor Anand Saxena, who was formerly a bookie, recorded his statement in connection with the Indian Premier League betting case on Friday.

Police sources said Saxena had told them that he met actor Vindoo Dara Singh at a film-launch party in Worli in 1993. Singh was also arrested in the case and is out on bail.

Saxena said that a mutual friend had introduced him to Singh.

The duo hit it off instantly, said a source, adding that Saxena has admitted to having introduced Singh to bookies Pawan and Sanjay Jaipur, the absconding brothers wanted in the betting case.

Saxena, said police sources, got into betting in 1987. However, in 2003, he got out of the illegal business and got into the real estate business.

While leaving the crime branch office, Saxena, in a brief interaction with mediapersons, said that he had known Singh “for many years”.

Meanwhile, crime branch sources told dna that the absconding Jaipur brothers own a penthouse and other properties in Dubai. “We suspect they’re holed up there. We’re also probing if they’ve bought any other property in India or abroad with the money generated through betting,” said a police source.
