IPL Spot-fixing: Delhi Court acquits Sreesanth and other players of all charges

Patiala House Court in New Delhi has cleared all the charges against the three accused cricketers. Besides the 16 arrested, 20 others also discharged in the case.

In a historic judgment which may have far reaching ramifications, MCOCA court at Patiala House Court in New Delhi has acquitted Sreesanth and  two other accused cricketers in IPL spot fixing scandal.

BCCI earlier had slapped life ban on Sreesanth and Chavan. The Court verdict however absolves them of all charges. 

Rajasthan Royals bowler S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were arrested on May 16, 2013 after the special cell of Delhi Police raided places in Mumbai for spot-fixing. There were total of 42 accused named in the chargesheet. Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel are also accused in this case.

Additional Sessions Judge Neena Bansal Krishna presided the case. During the arguments, Delhi police referred to telephone conversations among the bookies and the players to decides the rates for fixing the matches.

On July 2014, former Chief Justice RM Lodha suspended two IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years for the betting accusations. Franchise owners Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra too were banned for life from associating with any cricketing activities in India.
