At a time when India's shorter formats' captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is going through a rough patch and his prodigy Virat Kohli is having the time of his life, both as a batsman and a leader, the latter has gone past Mahi in terms of number of consecutive games captained in Indian Premier League (IPL).
Kohli has now led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 63 successive matches, bettering Dhoni's record of 61. The current 'orange cap holder' is second on the list, with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir leading the pack with 87 consecutive appearances as captain.
However, Dhoni, who is the current skipper of Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) features on the list not once but twice. The wicket-keeper batsman who was the heart and soul of the now suspended franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has two consecutive captaincy record - one lasting 59 games and the other 61.
Here are the top five cricketers with most consecutive appearances as captains in T20 cricket:
Gautam Gambhir (KKR) - 87*
Virat Kohli (RCB) - 63*
MS Dhoni (CSK) - 61*
MS Dhoni (CSK) - 59
Daryl Mitchell (Worcestershire) - 58*
