The umpiring howlers have been a talking point in this Indian Premier League. And it seems it wouldn’t end soon.

However, this time it wasn’t a wrong decision that would have claimed a batsmen’s wicket, but a howler that went unnoticed. Fortunately, it will not have any effect on the result of the game. During the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad game at Wankhede on Wednesday night, the two umpires failed to notice SRH captain and opener David Warner, who hit a boundary to MI’s Jasprit Bumrah on the last ball of the sixth over (read end of powerplay), continued to be on strike on the first ball of the next over (read 7.1) against Mitchell McClenaghan.

Both the on field umpires CK Nandan and Nitin Memon failed to notice the mistake that was committed on the field. The error is all the more funny considering how the game has evolved technologically and still it went unnoticed.  In the last game at this very venue, the same pair of on-field umpires was on duty when two MI batsmen were wrongly given out -- the more glaring being the leg before decision against home team captain Rohit Sharma against Kolkata Knight Riders. Sharma remonstrated with umpire Nandan and earned the wrath of the match referee who reprimanded him for breaching the IPL s Code of Conduct.
