Reflecting on Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) horrendous form in the ongoing Indian Premier League, South Africa's star batsman AB de Villiers has agreed that the two-time finalists have learnt a lesson.

RCB became the first team to confirm their ouster from the play-offs contention after their five-wicket defeat at the hands of table-toppers Mumbai Indians on Monday.

This was their fourth loss on the trot, having suffered humiliating defeats to Rising Pune Supergiant, Gujarat Lions, and more so against the Kolkata Knight Riders, against whom they were bundled out for 49 runs — the lowest IPL total of all time.

And, de Villiers had no excuses to offer on his team's repeated failures. "Unfortunately, this year we haven't fared as well as we wanted to. We have learnt some valuable lessons this season," the 33-year-old said during an event here on Tuesday.

But, de Villiers, who represented Delhi Daredevils in the first three seasons before plying his trade for RCB, was thankful of the memories that he has garnered so far from the tournament.

"It's been great ride... I started off at Delhi Daredevils in my first three years, which was a very good experience. Then, RCB (where) I have made a lot of friends this year, especially Virat (Kohli)," he said.

"It's my seventh season here now, and I couldn't have asked for more," added de Villiers, who has now featured in 115 IPL matches in his career.

Meanwhile, the flamboyant batsman also spoke of India's chances at the upcoming Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held from June 1-18 in England.

"India won the last time in England (2013), so they have a got a good chance (of defending the title)," he opined.
