Inzamam-ul-Haq and Wasim Jaffer share a lot in common: easygoing nature, calm demeanour and the unmistakeable silk in the way they stroke the ball.

Imagine the two batting together. World cricket couldn’t witness what England has in recent times. The two have been showcasing their skills during their stint for Lashings.

Yes, Inzy bhai, as he is fondly called, still wields the bat with the same abandon.
Ask Jaffer how it is to be batting alongside the Pakistani giant. The duo has been a dominant force for Lashings, and has pieced together quite a few 100-plus stands.

Inzamam made an entertaining 60 from 43 balls against Hymers College in Hull.

“It is fun batting with Inzy bhai,” Jaffer told dna from England. “In fact, on Thursday, we shared a century stand. I scored an unbeaten hundred and Inzy bhai struck a half century. He (Inzamam) still hits the ball hard and is as hungry as ever.”

Last month, Jaffer (119) and Inzamam (104) compiled a double-century stand against Aston Ingham. The match was witnessed by 500 spectators.

“Inzy has been playing for Lashings for the last three years. In his first year itself, he scored some five or six half centuries.

“Not only Inzamam, others such as Mohammad Yusuf, Saqlain Mushtaq and Gordon Greenidge are also active here. Apart from playing, you also get to experience different cultures in England,” Jaffer said.

So how is it to watch Inzamam from the other end?

“The quality of the attacks may not be at par with international standards, yet it’s amazing to watch him bat. Remember he’s out of practice. It is a big thing to score so fluently when you are not in touch and play rarely. Everyone knows how great a player he was.

“In fact, he once told me that he thought he retired from the game early and could have played more. Watching him bat now even I think the same,” Jaffer said.
