Injured pacer Shaun Tait aims to get into Australian World Cup squad

Pacer Shaun Tait aims to get into the Australian World Cup squad by returning from surgery in January.

Tait underwent corrective surgery on his right elbow a month ago, the second time he's needed an operation on the troublesome joint.

He will return in January for the domestic Twenty20 series and hopes to win a berth in Australia's squad for the World Cup starting the following month.

"If I have shown I can get through a few games, I suppose there is no reason why I can't be picked in the squad. I have been thinking about it a bit," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Tait, as saying.

"The first thing is to get back on the park, and once I'm back on the park and bowling quick and bowling alright, hopefully they can pick me," he said.

Tait conceded elbow problems were likely to plague him for the rest of his career.

"I'm always going to have an issue with it, definitely. I have had an issue with it for three or four years now, so it's just one of those things as a sportsman, there is always something you have got through your career that niggles," he said.

Tait said he would resume bowling by the end of the month after the surgery removed scar tissue surrounding a bone spur.
