Showing positive intent is both good and bad. It is good in the way that it unsettles the opposition. It is also bad as it causes self-destruction, like Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan repeatedly does to himself and his team.

Defending his dismissal, Shakib said on Saturday: "If you look at my innings throughout, I was playing shots. So that one, I didn't connect well and that's all I can say. Other than that, I think it was very positive the way I was batting. I didn't want to change my innings. I was playing the way I have been playing for the last five-six years."

Shakib also rated India pacer Umesh Yadav high. "He was bowling really well, probably the best spell I faced in my career. The way he was moving the ball both ways was tremendous. I was thinking I needed to be positive at that time. If there is a ball to hit, I will obviously hit it," said the 29-year-old left-handed all-rounder.

He said that, with Bangladesh still trailing by 365, "India are in front foot. We have to play really well in the first session on Sunday. That's the key. If we can score 100 to 120, I think we will be in a very good shape then. But at this moment, we are still a long way from the match."

After Shakib's dismissal, Bangladesh seventh-wicket pair of captain Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan shared an unbroken 87. Shakib said on Rahim's consistency with guiding the tail along: "He likes those situations. When the situation is tough, he likes to stand up and do the hardwork for the team. That character has helped him play for so long for Bangladesh.

"Mushfiqbhai didn't play any bad shot throughout the innings and hit the bad ball. Miraz's (Mehedi) first Test 50 is special. We will want them to play the first session on Sunday and that can take us close to saving follow-on. That is our first target."

Shakib maintained that the pitch was still a batting beauty. "The wicket is still really good. We see that the ball turns and helps spinners in India. But that is not happening. Apart from that one unplayable spell (by Yadav), we managed to cope. As of now the wicket is good. But tomorrow (Sunday) is a new day, let's see what happens."
