The first day of the India-Bangladesh Test overseen by observer Ratnakar Shetty, GM, Game Development and Administration, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), may have gone smoothly but there were some issues that needed to be addressed here on Thursday.

The controversy surrounding the staging association, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), was regarding tickets. Shetty, who has been appointed to ensure smooth conduct of the Test, was apprised of the fact that spectators have been charged extra for the cover price of the tickets booked through an agency, eventsnow.com.

It is learnt that the contract for the sale of tickets that HCA has signed is reportedly for Rs 18 lakh. However, the ticketing agency is overburdening the fans with a sky-rocketing Rs 36 extra for every Rs 100 denomination ticket purchased online.

"The charges against HCA are that unlike the previous agency, bookmyshow.com, which used to generate its revenue from advertisements printed on the ticket, thereby not burdening the fan, the current agency is charging Rs 36 as internet handling fee per every Rs 100 ticket purchased online. Besides, after making the online transaction, people buying tickets are to produce a print of their confirmation message to procure their ticket at a select venue," said a HCA official not wanting to be named.

The commission only goes up with higher denomination and this has not pleased the public, who are up in angst against the HCA.

An official from the ticketing agency said on Thursday that the extra charges were "for the convenience of the fans".

"If people want to avoid buying tickets from the convenience of their living room and redeem them at redemption centre by paying that little extra, they can always queue up at retail outlets. A lot of fans prefer not to wait in the queue. But for those keen to line up for tickets that are also available at various redemption centres," the official said.
