For the first time in the ongoing Test series, India got the rub of the green going their way as the Australians used up both their reviews and couldn't overturn a 'not out' decision during the hosts' first innings of the 3rd Test in Ranchi.

Steve Smith was exemplary with his leadership and his bowlers reciprocated brilliantly tying down overnight batsmen Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara in the first few overs of Day 3. However, in the 58th over bowled by Steve O'Keefe, Pujara survived a huge LBW appeal as the on-field umpire judged him 'not out' and the third umpire backed him up.

Smith had asked for a review thinking that the ball had hit the pad before the bat. On the Ultra Edge replay there seemed to be a spike before the ball hit the bat, especially on the side-on view, but the third umpire went by the front-on angle which propelled him to stay with the on-field decision.

In the very next over Vijay got an inside edge which ricocheted off his pad and went to short leg. This time too the umpire adjudged the batsman 'not out' and Australia, having already used up both their reviews, were left to rue their luck.

Vijay finally got stumped on 82 off O'Keefe's bowling. Pujara remained unconquered on 40 as India went to lunch at 193 for two.
