The Australian media continued it's assault on Virat Kohli a day after India beat the Aussies to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Reacting to a question by an Australian journalist whether he stands by his comment before the start of the series that the Australian players are his friends off the field, Kohli had replied in the negative.

"No, it has changed,"said Kohli on Tuesday. “I thought that was the case, but it has changed for sure. As I said, in the heat of the battle you want to be competitive but I’ve been proven wrong. The thing I said before the first Test, that has certainly changed and you won’t hear me say that ever again.”

This stance of the Indian captain has not gone down well with the Australian press who think he's 'classless'.

"Virat Kohli had to shake hands and move on after series win but he acted like a child," read a headline in Sydney's Daily Telegraph, which also called Kohli an "egomaniac".

"Beergate: Kohli's latest classless act", another headline said.

"If there were any doubts about the poor spirit between the Indian and Australian sides it was confirmed after the series when the home side shunned a suggestion the two sides drink together," wrote The Australian's Peter Lalor.

This was in relation to Steve Smith not getting a response from Ajinkya Rahane after asking him if the players from the two teams could go out for drinks after the match.

Kohli's attitude was even compared to that of his counterpart Smith, who apologised for calling India opener Murali Vijay a 'f***ing cheat' after he claimed a catch when the ball had touched the ground.

"All Virat Kohli had to do was say sorry. Steve Smith did," wrote Herald Sun journalist Russell Gould.

Kohli has faced the wrath of the Aussie media ever since he stopped short of calling his opponents 'cheats' at the end of the second Test in Bengaluru.
