There was no shortage of action in the first half hour itself in the on-going fourth Test between Indian and Australia. On a gorgeous morning in Dharamshala, Pat Cummins was right on the money with the first ball of the day. His sliding delivery outside off -stump compelled Ravindra Jadeja to poke at it. The ball beat the bat and the Aussies went up with a loud and confident appeal. Umpire Marais Erasmus was prompt in raising his finger, but Jadeja was even quicker to ask for a referral.

As it turned out, the left-hander was right and there was clear daylight between bat and ball. The decision was overturned and Jadeja lived to fight another day.

Here's what happened:

Team India haven't had the best of times with the Decision Review System (DRS), but on Monday morning luck seemed to be firmly in the hosts' corner. After using the technology effectively on the first ball of the day, Jadeja enjoyed another success with the DRS. Well, not really success.

To the utter dismay of the Australians, the DRS couldn't be used at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium for a while on Monday due to some technical issues. This was after a few overs had been bowled in the first session. The commentators brought this issue to the notice of the viewers when Cummins unsuccessfully appealed for an LBW against Jadeja It was due to a power failure that DRS went off the radar for sometime. However, the ball was clearly pitching outside leg and Jadeja would've been not out anyway.

The information had been relayed on to the field immediately and the Aussies knew they won't be able to go to the third umpire for a review. To add to their frustration, a similar incident again happened a few overs later. Josh Hazlewood got one to crash into Jadeja's pad but the visitors couldn't take a review. On that occasion, too, the ball had pitched outside leg anyway.

And to add insult to injury, when the DRS came on later and the Australian's finally got to use it, the review didn't go in their favour. Hazlewood appealed for LBW against Saha but Erasmus got it right this time and said not out. The visitors decided to go for a review, but realised they had wasted it as replays suggested that there was a big inside edge. This was also their last review left.

Meanwhile, India got off to a wonderful start on the third day's play as Jadeja and Saha took India past Australia's first innings total of 300. Jadeja, in particular, was aggressive in his approach and hit a flurry of attractive boundaries against both spin and pace. He soon brought up his second successive half-century and treated the small crowd present to his trademark sword-wielding celebration.
