The competition is set to get all the more tougher as the Kids Premier League cricket tournament reached its pre-final stages on Sunday. Five matches of semi-final league were played at SS Infinitus grounds.
Three out of five matches played on Sunday were decided in last over of the matches. The contest in senior group between Midas and Silvanus ended in a nail biting finish with Midas winning the match on last ball of the innings.
Winning the toss, Silvanus elected to bat first and posted a reasonable score of 78 runs to defend in stipulated eight overs game. Chasing the target, batsmen of Midas started reasonably well and scored according to the required run rate.
With fall of a couple of wickets, the runs slowed down in middle overs, but then Midas managed to reach near the target. Nikunj Jain of Midas finally had last laugh by winning the game for his team on last ball.
Midas won the match by seven wickets and Nikunj was adjudged Man of the Match for scoring unbeaten 33 runs in 23 balls.
A similar contest was played between Senior Silvanus and Senior Oceanus in the afternoon.
Silvanus playing its second match of semi-finals had no other option but to win to stay in the tournament.
Silvanus posted a total of 70 runs and invited opponents to chase. Team Oceanus lost wickets in succession and could never come up in the game. However, the match was played till last ball with last wicket to spare. Silvanus won the match by nine runs. Now its place in the tournament depends upon the match to be played between Oceanus and Midas on next Sunday.
In super senior group, Cronus won against Oceanus. Cronus posted 77 runs and restricted opponents to moderate total of 57 runs, thereby winning the match by 20 runs.
In junior group, Midas lost its first match to Silvanus and later won the second contest against Oceanus. Midas place in the tournament now depends up on the match to be played between Silvanus and Oceanus on coming Sunday.
