WWE has released Indian-born superstar The Great Khali. Several wrestling news websites have stated that WWE sources confirmed that Great Khali's contract had expired and was not renewed. Thus, Indian fans would no longer be able to watch him on WWE TV.

Great Khali, who was born Dalip Singh Rana, hails from Himachal Pradesh. He suffers from a disease known as acromegaly, which is the reason for his incredible height (billed as 7'1") and his relatively slowness of movement.

Dalip Singh Rana debuted in WWE in 2006 under the ring name The Great Khali (reportedly a modification of Kali, the Hindu Goddess), and proceeded to take out The Undertaker, in a display of dominating strength. For the next couple of years, Khali was heavily promoted by WWE and even allowed to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

However, his reign as the champion was disappointing, and Dave Batista beat him for the title after a couple of months. Khali has often been blamed by WWE fans for being too slow in the ring, lacking a good move set and being unable to talk on the microphone well  enough. He also lacked the charisma of Andre The Giant or the Big Show, who both suffered from acromegaly.

In spite of his poor success, WWE persisted with Khali for several years due to his popular appeal in India, which is a growing market for the wrestling company. Khali was eventually pushed out of contention for the World Championship and began to compete against lesser known wrestlers, even losing matches on a consistent basis. Finally, WWE has pulled the trigger and opted not to renew Khali's contract. In spite of his relative popularity in India, Khali will not go down as a legend in professional wrestling thanks to his lack of ability.
