Anelka becomes the second foreigner to sign for Mumbai City FC from outside the IMG-Reliance pool after German centre-back Manuel Friedrich. 35-year-old Anelka last played for West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League, but the contract was terminated after his controversial quenelle celebration.
Anelka also played for Arsenal, Liverpool, Bolton and Chelsea, winning the Premier League title with the Gunners and Blues. He also won the Champions League with Real Madrid and Italian Serie A title with Juventus. He made 69 senior international appearances for France and scored 14 goals, winning the Euro 2000 and 2001 Confederations Cup.
