Indian-origin girl makes it to US acrobatic gymnastic team

Romina Gupta of Silicon Valley, California has made it to the US national team for acrobatics gymnastics. The 17-year-old, whose parents hail from Kolkata, is now eyeing medals at the 2016 World Championships in China.

According to a leading English daily, Romina is part of a three women gymnast group who perform acrobatic gymnastics. This includes flips, balancing acts, and dancing. 

Romina has been a gymnast since last 14 years. Along with her teammates, she has won gold and silver medals at the 2013, 2014, and 2015 US national championships.

Romina's gymnastic journey began when she was a toddler. She started with artistic gymnastic. She tried her hand at diving and tracks before getting drawn to acrobatic gymnastics.

If she wins a medal at the World Championships, Romina will join the ranks of Indian-Americans Mohini Bharadwaj (Silver for US in the 2004 Olympics), and Stephen Raj Bhavsar (bronze for US in the 2008 Olympics).
