According to shocking reports, a member of the Indian cricket contingent on tour in Zimbabwe was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a woman in the hotel they were staying, reports the New Zimbabwe website.

The Assistant Police Commissioner Charity Charamba was quoted by the site saying, "The victim has pointed to an Indian national from the batch that came in last week, at this point I’m not in the position to reveal whether it’s a player or official as I’m bound by law. But, what I can confirm is that the accused appeared in court on Saturday."

Hinting at a 'potential diplomatic feud', Charamba said that police have concluded the investigation and they are handling the case with caution.

Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe is trying to resolve the matter, reports the website.

According to ANI, the person involved has denied the charges and is ready to take the DNA test to prove his innocence.

It was being reported that the victim was wandering in the passage of Meikles hotel in Central Harare, where Team India is a guest. According to the report, the victim claimed to have been drugged, then waking up to bloodied undergarments in one of the member's rooms.

“Certain senior officials from India were seen in the hotel, attempting to pacify the situation. They spoke to the woman, and several of the city’s law makers,” the report added.
