India v/s New Zealand: Umesh Yadav strikes early, Kiwis reach 38/1 at tea on Day 4

Chasing an improbable 475 to win, New Zealand were 38 for one in their second innings at tea on day four of the third and final cricket Test, on Tuesday.

Resuming the day at 18 for no loss, India declared their second innings at 216 for 3 after Cheteshwar Pujara (101) scored a century.

New Zealand require 437 runs while India need nine wickets in four sessions remaining in the match.

Earlier, Injuries to openers Lokesh Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan prompted Gambhir's return to test cricket after a two-year absence and the 34-year-old southpaw initially failed to capitalise with a patchy first innings score of 29.

Things looked worse for Gambhir on Monday when he retired hurt with an injured shoulder but the Delhi player walked back out to bat after Vijay's exit.

Gambhir, who turns 35 on Thursday, hit six boundaries before completing his 22nd test fifty off 54 balls but was dismissed without adding to his score when he drove off-spinner Jeetan Patel straight to Martin Guptill at cover.

Along with Gautam Gambhir, India lost Murali Vijay (19), and Virat Kohli (17) after resuming the day at 18 for no loss. Cheteshwar Pujara (101) and Ajinkya Rahane (23) remained unbeaten.
