Good- Bye. We will join you tomorrow morning for a live coverage of Day 3.
Stumps- Day 2
Murali Vijay- 55 off 102, Cheteshwar Pujara- 25 off 69
37 overs- 108/1. Brilliant, solid batting by Murali Vijay has helped India to yet another good start in their innings. Throughout the series, Vijay has been truly fantastic, in amazing form. He continues to counter the Aussie pace battery with his patience and class. India have crossed 100 with the loss of Dhawan but they face a challenge as they are still 422 runs behind Australia. Steven Smith was the star of the day who racked up his third century of the series and put Australia in a dominating position with a fine knock of 192. Good support from lower order batsman and poor Indian bowling helped Australia to stay on course of a win in this Test. India batted extremely well in the last session, but they need to show consistency over a few more such sessions if they are to stop the Australian juggernaut

Trail by 469 runs

Pujara- 4off 8, Vijay- 29 off 49
15 overs- 57/1
Cheteshwar Pujara comes in to bat.
OUT! Australia strike to dismiss Shikhar Dhawan. A beautiful delivery bowled by Ryan Harris which Dhawan edges to Steve Smith in the third slip.
Dhawan- 28 off 51 balls cSmith bHarris
14 overs- 52/0
Partnership of 52 runs from 84 balls. Murali Vijay scored 89% of his runs on the backfoot and remaining 11% on the front foot. This goes to show that Australian bowlers are bowling full.
Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay work well in tandem to give India a good start.
11 overs- 43/0
India at the moment is scoring four runs an over
Australian bowlers bowling much tighter and pushing Indian batsmen on the backfoot.
9 overs-38/0
Shikhar Dhawan- 19 off 31, Murali Vijay- 19off 23
6 overs- 26/0
Shikhar Dhawan- 12 off 21, Murali Vijay- 14 off 16
Both the batsmen have given India a good start.
3 overs- 6/0. Dhawan- 1 off 8, Vijay- 5 off 10
142 overs- 530/9
WICKET! Mohammed Shami to Lyon, who swings and misses a straight one, that one hits the leg stump. NM Lyon b Mohammed Shami 11 off 15b
140 overs- 515/8
Smith- 188 off 297, Lyon- 0 off 8 balls.
In the last one hour more than 180 runs have been scored.
136 overs- 482/8
Australia moving closer to the 300-run mark.
Nathan Lyon comes in to bat.
OUT! R Ashwin bowling around the wicket claims Ryan Harris (74 off 88 balls), who tries to sweep and completely misses it. That hits him plumb on the pad and the umpire gives a LBW.
Finally 8th wicket, looks like we should play with all spinner instead of fast bowler. #INDvsAUS

100 runs partnership from 141 balls
133 overs- 457/7
Smith-150 off 273 balls, Harris- 54 off 78
There is no way Dhoni is able to stop the runs.
Australian captain Steven Smith scores 150 off 273 deliveries. Batted well under pressure. As he raises his bat in celebration, the crowd breaks into a cheer and are up on their feet.
DRINKS BREAK! Seems like Harris will enjoy that drink.
132 overs- 452/7
HALF CENTURY for Ryan Harris. 50 off 75 balls. This is his third fifty in test cricket
Indian bowlers' 2014 year resolution is about to complete : Make Ryan Harris proper batsman. #IndvsAus #AusvsInd
— 0mar Abdullah (@abdullah_0mar) December 27, 2014
Harris- 46 off 58, Smith- 139 off 263
Indian Bowling *Out of form batsman become Bradman *In form avg 200 against us. *There is no tail. *We ball short @pitchinv #INDvsAUS
— Vivek (@Vivek_koul) December 27, 2014
128 overs- 436/7. Now even Ashwin is leaking runs. No strategy seems to be working to contain Smith and Harris.
The so called 'tail' of Australia, Ryan Harris might get a century. He surely is not thinking like a lower order batsman.
Australia are piling up the runs. Ashwin in his 38th over, having an excellent eceonomy rate, Has kept the runs down.
125 overs- 415/7
Runs contiue to flow as Smith (136 off 254)- Harris (28 off 49) partnership grows stronger
The fact that we lack bowlers who can take 10 wickets an innings is now biting us hard! Very hard! #INDvsAUS
— Shakthi (@v_shakthi) December 27, 2014
121 overs- 403/7
Once again the short ball bringing in runs for Australia.
120 overs- 398/7
Lunch Day 2 Session 1
Australia are sitting very pretty at this stage. Smith- 128 off 230, Ryan Harris 10 off 13
Ashwin has been excellent this morning.
115 overs- 389/7
Once again a pathetic effort from India. Again an important session is allowed to let go. Aus 389-7. #INDvsAUS
— Arpit Raha (@arpitraha) December 27, 2014
114 overs- 386/7
This morning was about consolidating for India. Australia has been given many opportunies to score runs. India will have to use the 'flat track bowling' approach. Considering the pitch coonditions here there is no point in bowling seam.
111.4 overs - 367/7 WICKET! R Ashwin gets his man! Johnson completely misses that one as he steps out early to slog it over the leg side but as that one slipped through the gap. Dhoni does the rest as he dislodges the bails and Johnson doesn't even bother to look back. MG Johnson st Dhoni b Ashwin 28 off 37b
111 overs-375/6
Once again very poor bowling by India. No strategy at all. Captai Dhoni needs to step in change the strategy as the currently clearly doesn't seem to work. Tail batsman Mitchell Johnson is not interested in playing keeping in mind a gameplan, but merely hitting fours and sixes.
India played into the hands of Australia.
107 overs- 356/6
Surprised why he hasn't been introduced as yet? R Ashwin needs to be brought into the attack to bowl to the left-hander Johnson. And at the other end a fast bowler.
The new ball is important. Once the ball becomes old it is easier to score runs.
Smith- 110 off 206, Mitchell Johnson- 1 off 7
104 overs- 332/6
Smith in pain as he gets hit by an Umesh Yadav delivery in the previous over.
100.5 overs- 326/6
WICKET! Mohammed Shami to Haddin as the latter tried to leave this length delivery outside off but is not able to get his bat out of the way.. this takes the bottom edge and keeper Dhoni takes a good low catch
BJ Haddin c Dhoni b Mohammed Shami 55 off 84b
India allowing the game to drift. Bowlers leak runs.
CENTURY for captain Steven Smith. 7th hunderd in 25 test matches, 3rd against India. At one stage he had 2 runs off 31 balls.
India's success this #INDvsAUS #indseries would be measured by how many times they manage to get Smith out. Looks bloody invincible.
— Amar (@AmarBantwal) December 27, 2014
100 overs- 317/5
Smith- 96 off 190, Haddin- 55 off 83
India have consistently bowled short when they have changed the length. Smith-Haddin duo have added 56 runs this morning.
Runs coming quickly for Oz as they reach 300
96 overs- 294/5. India need a good tight spell, with some disciplined bowling as India gifting runs.
Brad Haddin waiting for the short balls. He is a different player now and started attacking when he got into his forties.
HALF CENTURY for Brad Haddin. Slams a well-played 75 ball half ton. A 50 after 14 innings at the test-level. Haddin starting to look dangerous now.
This is Brad Haddin's first fifty vs India in Tests! #AUSvIND #INDvsAUS
— Sarang Bhalerao (@bhaleraosarang) December 27, 2014
94 overs- 283/5- Smith- 76 off 167, Haddin- 41 off 70
India is in the danger zone and will be looking to clean up the last five batsmen.
Get them out ASAP boys #INDvsAUS
— Anusha (@CraaaazyDaaaisy) December 27, 2014
Mohammed Shami giving away 12 runs in the last over.
The ball is not really coming on the bat. This was an expensive start for India early morning.
India seem to be repeating Brisbane here. Using the short ball tactic does not seem to be working as Haddin-Smith seem to be taking the Indian bowleers to the boundary ropes.
Welcome to the live coverage of India v/s Australia on Day 2.
The boxing day lived up to its hype where each team battled hard and finally left with honours even. Both the team will likely to grab the early initiative on 2nd day morning.
For Australia, the comforting factor will be the presence of captain Steven Smith, looking ominous on 72. He is supported by Brad Haddin. While Haddin is no McCulllum, he is a decent bat capable of scoring big runs in a fast pace. With Mitchell Johnson to come still, Aussies will be looking to score in excess of 450 to really put pressure on Indian batting order.
India on the other hand will be hoping for some early wickets. The second new ball has still not lost its lustre and if Indian bowlers can show the discipline they displayed in the first day, they may be handsomely rewarded for their effort. Indians will be looking to wrap the Aussie line up quickly as Shami indicated in the post day presser. Indian bowlers have been fairly accurate and R Ashwin's decent spell was heartwarming for all Indian fans.
India made a surprise change by inducting KL Rahul in the first 11. Although Rahul is an opener, he is likely to play at No 6 position. As and when Indians get to bat, they have to apply themselves to stay for a long period in the drop-in MCG pitch. The pitch is not banal, and with Aussie pacers steaming in, tough questions will be asked to the Indian top orders. Let's hope that Indians apply themselves to play to their potential so that team can get a sizeable first inings lead.
