India record historic 3-1 hockey win over Australia, swoop series 3-1

India beat Australia at Perth, thanks to a brace from Akashdeep Singh and a SK Uthappa goal.

The Indian men's hockey team produced a classic performance, as they routed World Champions Australia 3-1 in Perth, and clinched the four-match series 3-1.

The win comes as a shock, considering the fact that the visitors were thrashed 4-0 in the first game, which makes it even the more commendable.

India drew first blood in the 13th minute, thanks to Akashdeep Singh, who expertly converted a penalty corner.

Despite a plethora of chances for both sides, the score remained locked at 1-0, till half-time, thus paving way for even more exciting hockey.

Australia hit back in the third quarter, when Thomas Craig converted a penalty corner in the 36th minute, to put the home said back in the game.

But it was India all the way in the remainder of the tie, as the visitors scored through two superb goals from Akashdeep(50th minute) and SK Uthappa(53rd mintue) to settle the game once and for all.

Australia tried their level best to make a comeback, but were thwarted by the exceptio nal reflexes of Indian goalkeeper, PR Sreejesh, who kept the home forwards at bay.

After this sensational win, India get ready to play in the Champions Trophy tournament on home soil, where they will take on mighty Germany, in the first match at Bhubaneshwar.

The tournament will commence from December 6-14.
