Indian duo Saketh Myneni and Yuki Bhambri recorded dominating straight-set victories as India completed a 5-0 rout of Chinese Taipei in the first round of their Asia/Oceania Group I Davis Cup tie on Sunday.
Debutant Myneni, 26, took just 48 minutes to dispatch Tsung Hua Yang 6-1 6-4 in the dead fourth rubber. Yuki Bhambri beat Hsien-Yin Peng, who played in place of Ti Chen 7-5 6-0 in 55 minutes to end the score at 5-0 for India.
India’s Davis Cup coach Zeeshan Ali said it was good for home team players to have got the chance to test themselves in the tie against Chinese Taipei.
Meanwhile, Japan advanced to the Davis Cup quarterfinals for the first time after Canada’s Frank Dancevic retired from his match with Kei Nishikori.
