It may seem that Hyderabad was always going to host the one-off Test ever since the venue for the one-off Bangladesh Test was decided in August 2016.

But, it was not until Monday, February 6, that the Hyderabad Court approved Hyderabad Cricket Association to host the Test pending various cases.

The BCCI appointed Ratnakar Shetty, general manager - administration and game development as the observer to ensure the smooth conduct of the Test. It has also appointed Santosh Rangnekar, CFO, BCCI, as the financial advisor to ensure proper maintenance of records in relation to income and expenditure for the Test.

Speaking to DNA on Wednesday, Shetty said: “My appointment happened because there was uncertainty whether the present managing committee of the Hyderabad CA would be able to run the show and in what way BCCI could help it.

“Initially, the idea was to help in the preparation for the Test match and end the uncertainty. Later, with a number of court cases going, on Monday, the court allowed the Test match to be hosted by this committee provided there was an observer. Since I was already in this role, what we (BCCI) are looking at was to ensure that the Test is organised successfully, the various parameters taken care of and assist the committee in doing that.”
