Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara overcame occasional discomforts to take India to 86 for one wicket at lunch on the opening day of their one-off test against Bangladesh at Hyderabad on Thursday.

Vijay was batting on 45 at the break with Pujara on 39, the right-handers having added 84 runs for the flourishing second wicket after skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat.

For Bangladesh, playing their first test on Indian soil, the sprightly Taskin Ahmed struck early dismissing Lokesh Rahul with the fourth delivery of the match.

While many others in his place would probably have left the fuller delivery well outside the off-stump, Rahul went for an expansive cover drive without moving his feet, dragging the ball onto his wickets via a backfoot deflection.

Rahul, who smashed 199 in his previous test knock against England in December, made two. Vijay and Pujara helped India overcome the early loss with steady accumulation of runs even though their running between the wickets was not really up to the mark.

Taskin's new-ball partner Kamrul Islam Rabbi troubled both with the odd short-pitched delivery, while off-spinner Mehedi Hasan induced a couple of edges that eluded the slip fielder.

Mehedi was guilty of wasting a run-out opportunity, failing to collect a ball at the non-striker's end, which could have sent back Vijay after a mix-up with Pujara.

Brief Scores:
India 1st innings: 86 for 1 in 27 overs(M Vijay batting 45, C Pujara batting 39; Taskin Ahmed 1/17).
