After making history by recording the highest ODI total by an England batsman, Ian Bell believes that his record would help lift him to World Cup success after he fired a massive knock of 187 runs against an Australian Prime Minister's XI on Wednesday.

Bell admitted that he had no idea that he had made history when he recorded the highest one-day innings by an England batsman after passing the 22-year-old landmark set by Robin Smith, who scored 167 against Australia at Edgbaston in 1993.

Bell's massive knock of 187 runs from 145 deliveries, with 20 fours and three sixes, helped England post a mammoth 391 for six in Canberra to equal their highest one-day total, set against Bangladesh at Trent Bridge in 2005, The Independent reported.

Bell's knock helped England's Prime Minister XI beat Australia's Prime Minister XI by 60 runs.

Now Bell, who in 150 ODIs has converted only three of his 31 half-centuries into hundreds, is confident that he has finally found a method that can help him prosper against the best sides in the world, starting with Friday's opening Tri-Series match against Australia in Sydney.

Bell said that he didn't know about the record, adding that it was nice to get a really big score in a competitive game.

The batsman said that he has been guilty in one-day cricket of getting a lot of 50s and not converting enough, adding that that's what he can do if he bats 49 overs. He claimed that he has spoken to national coach Peter Moores about that, and believes that he can play at the top of the order for England.

Bell admitted that he was not even sure of his place in the squad before Alastair Cook was relieved of his position as one-day captain last month, but now the batsman is looking forward to playing a key role in England's World Cup campaign.

Bell claimed that coming out there he didn't know where he was going to bat or if he would start, so he added that it was nice to get first crack at opening, which filled him with a lot of confidence.

Bell said that it's nice to have a good start but added that the big stuff starts on Friday.
