Nicolas Anelka has said his time as manager of Mumbai City FC could soon be over, accusing his side of lacking fighting spirit after they missed out on an semifinal berth at the Indian Super League (ISL)
Anelka, 36, was named as the club's player-cum-manager in July, but with two games to play they are now out of contention for a place in the last four.

The former French international accused his side of a lack of fighting spirit after a 1-1 home draw against bottom-placed Kerala Blasters on Thursday night effectively ended their season.

"I don't think I will come back. You have to speak to the team management," a dejected Anelka was quoted as saying during a post-match press conference.

"The main reason behind the poor run of the team is lack of fighting spirit.

"The way we played, we don't deserve to be in the semis. We can't blame anybody. We lacked the desire to win," he added.

Anelka has had difficult working relationships with former Crystal Palace and Bolton player Andre Moritz, who has since left, and Indian striker Sunil Chhetri.

Assistant coach Oscar Bruzon was also relieved of his duties midway in this season.

"I don't think we had fighters in this team. Last season we had players who had 10 percent of the quality from this season. But the players then had more fight in them," he said.

Although he appears to have lost his appetite for coaching, the 36-year-old held back from calling time on his playing career when asked about his future plans.

"I don't know. I will have to rest and think what I need to do for the future," he said.

"As a player maybe, I don't know, I will have to rest and think what I need to do for the future," he added.
