The Chennai-based Sun Group unveiled the name and logo of its IPL team at a glittering function in Hyderabad on Thursday. Sunrisers Hyderabad will be coached by Australian Tom Moody, and mentored by Kris Srikkanth and VVS Laxman.

Srikkanth, a former India skipper and chairman of selectors, announced that he would be the mentor and strategic analyst of the team. “For the first time, I am doing a mentor’s job. I am taking this as a challenge. I have been captain, chairman of selectors and player. I am sure this very city of Hyderabad will take me into a different position as far as mentorship is concerned,” he said. Moody was also present at the function. As was CEO K Shanmugam. Laxman couldn’t make it.

Srikkanth said the Sunrisers have retained 20 Deccan Chargers players and that Sri Lankan ace Sangakkara would be the captain “for now”. “All of us including myself, Tom Moody and Laxman will put our heads together and steer the team forward,” he said.

The team is now waiting for the January auction to boost its squad.
