While expressing his disappointment over the increasing political interference in sporting affairs, former all-rounder Jacques Kallis has stated that he was 'embarrassed' to call himself a South African.

On Monday, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula had announced that Cricket South Africa had been suspended from hosting or bidding for any major international events after failing to meet its transformation targets. Rugby, athletics and netball federations also received the same punishment and the decision will be reviewed next year.

"So sad that i find myself embarrassed to call myself a South African so often these days #no place for politics in sport," tweeted Kallis, who is the only player to have scored over 10000 runs and taken over 250 wickets in both forms of the game.

South Africa is not scheduled to host any major ICC events until the end of June 2019.
