DDCA secretary and former team India manager Sunil Dev has claimed that the fourth Test between his country and England, which was played in Manchester in 2014, was fixed. Dev was caught making these revelations in a sting operation conducted by a Hindi daily newspaper. Dev said that skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni chose to bat first in the cloudy conditions because the match was fixed , insisting that his decision came as a surprise to the team management as they had decided to bowl first in a team meeting.

India won the toss and elected to bat first. The top order was completely swept away by Broad and Anderson. Captain MS Dhoni scored a defiant 70 and R Ashwin was the second highest scorer with 40 runs. India folded in first innings for just 152 runs. 5 players scored ducks including Kohli. Broad was the pick of the bowlers with six wickets for 25 runs. Anderson took 3 wickets.

England in reply posted a massive total of 367. Root, Butler and Bell scored half-centuries. Root top scored with patient 77. For India, Bhuvi and Aaron took 3 wickets apiece. India in the second innings folded for mere 161 runs.

Ashwin top scored with 46. India's chief tormentor was surprisingly Moeen Ali who took 4 wickets for 39. India lost the match by an innings and 54 runs. Now, with match-fixing charges being levelled, the match will face fresh scrutiny.
