Mariyappan Thangavelu, who won gold in the T-42 High Jump event of Rio Paralympics, needs money for the betterment of his performance and nutrition, while his mother still has to pay a loan of three lakh but that doesn't stop him from exhibiting his generous side..
Soon after Thangavelu became the third Indian Paralympian to win a yellow metal in the quadrennial event, sports ministry of India announced a cash prize of Rs 75 lakh while Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa declared a reward of Rs 2 crore for the high jumper.
Now it is learnt that Thangavelu has decided to donate Rs 30 lakh from the prize money to his government school. Well, that is what you call a 'heart of gold'.

Thangavelu will also be the India's flag-bearer at the closing ceremony of the Rio Paralympics. "Thangavelu Mariyappan will take lead as the flag bearer of the closing ceremony at the Paralympic Games 2016!," the Indian Olympic Association tweeted from its official handle.
