India will enter their World Cup title defence without tasting a win in 13 weeks. This has been the team's worst show, going into cricket's biggest show in the last 25 years — winless in a series just preceding it.

In the last three months, India have lost the Test series 0-2 to Australia and went down without a fight in the tri-series, losing twice to England, the last of which was on Friday, and once to Australia while one game was washed out.

What makes it alarming is that Indian batsmen are expected to pull the team through, and, yet, they have hardly inspired confidence.

Arguably the best batsman in the team, Virat Kohli failed to touch double digits in the four tri-series innings while Rohit Sharma is racing against time to sort his hamstring. Indian bowling also has become a butt of jokes and adding to that is the injury to spearhead Ishant Sharma.

MS Dhoni and Co have two weeks to put their act together and get their combination right. Their first World Cup match will be against Pakistan and a win there will be a perfect antidote to the 15 weeks of misery.
