K Srikanth and RMV Gurusaidutt continued their good form in the men’s singles to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the Macau Open Badminton Tournament in Macau on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Srikanth went on a smashing spree, a majority of them in the second set, against his Korean opponent Min Ki Kim to win 21-13 21-11 in just 28 minutes.

Twenty two-year-old Gurusaidutt, seeded 12th in this Grand Prix Gold event and ranked 52nd in the world, took only 30 minutes to get the better of Chinese Taipei shuttler Po Wei Cheng 21-10 21-14 in the second round. Gurusaidutt will take on seventh seed Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia in Thursday’s pre-quarterfinals.

Among the other Indians in action during the day, Arundhati Pantawane and Tanvi Lad made exits from women’s singles in the first round. While Pantawane lost to eighth seed Indonesian Adrianti Firdasari 19-21 15-21 in 34 minutes, Lad went down to fifth seed Hsiao Ma Pai of Chinese Taipei 11-21 17-21 in 39 minutes.

However, in the mixed doubles, the pair of Tarun Kona and Ashwini Ponnappa advanced with a 21-18 21-17 win over Thailand’s Thitipong Lapoe and Peeraya Munkitamorn in the first round. But, Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan failed to enter the second round, losing to Chinese Taipei pair of Min Chun Liao/Hsiao Huan Chen 21-16 21-23 20-22.

Ponnappa had a good opening round in women’s doubles. Ponnappa and Pradnya Gadre upset second seed Lok Yan Poon/Ying Suet Tsi of Hong Kong 21-19 21-19.
